Hyderabad: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) apprehended 14 individuals, including a couple, for alleged drug consumption and purchase at Gachibowli on Saturday. The crackdown targeted a local ganja distribution network operating near an HDFC Bank branch.
Police officials revealed that a man from Maharashtra was supplying ganja to a wide clientele in the area. The suspect, who remains at large, reportedly transported around 5 kilograms of ganja from Maharashtra, repackaged it into 50-gram packets, and sold each for Rs. 3,000. The supplier maintained a list of over 100 clients and used a WhatsApp code, “Bhai baccha a gaya bhai,” to alert buyers about new stock.
During the operation, undercover teams positioned themselves around the bank and detained 14 buyers within two hours. The group included IT professionals, a student, a property manager, a travel agency owner, and a couple who arrived with their four-year-old son. The father tested positive for drug use and was arrested, while the mother and child were released.
All 14 individuals underwent on-the-spot urine drug tests and tested positive for consumption. Authorities have sent them to certified de-addiction centers for treatment and rehabilitation.
EAGLE is analyzing seized digital evidence, including WhatsApp logs and client databases, to dismantle the broader supply network.
