Hyderabad: The Human Rights Forum (HRF) will organise the 16th commemorative meeting of human rights activist K Balagopal from 10 am to 5 pm at the main hall of the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally on Sunday, October 12.
Topics to be discussed
The meeting will be attended by activists, scholars and prominent members of the civil society. National convener of Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan Yogendra Yadav will speak on ‘Challenges to the Architecture of Electoral Democracy’, while Delhi University professor Nandini Sundar will discuss the subject, ‘Whose Bastar? The struggle for Adivasi futures.’
Member of the All India Lawyers Association for Justice (AILAJ) PS Ajay Kumar, will talk on ‘New forms of land theft’, and Apar Gupta, Internet Freedom Foundation member, will reflect on ‘AI and Privacy.’
Balagopal’s book, ‘Rajyanganni Ela Chudali?’, a collection of writings in Telugu on the Indian Constitution, will be re-released. A short film on Palestine will also be screened.

A tireless fighter for justice for three decades, K Balagopal inspired an entire generation to rights activism, leading by example.
An eloquent speaker, original political thinker and writer, his rich analyses of various contemporary and historical issues are well known both within Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and outside. He was a man of rare courage and integrity who espoused a politics that was deeply ethical. He entered the legal profession in 1996 and defended cases of adivasis, women, dalits and labourers, creating spaces for those who could not otherwise access justice in the courts.
Balagopal was a founder-member of HRF and its general secretary for four years, from 2005 to 2009. A champion of the oppressed, he was a source of enormous moral strength to all democratic struggles. He relentlessly strove to build a vibrant, broad-based and truly independent human rights movement.
