Hyderabad: Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED), that works under the aegis of the Union ministry of labour and employment; is celebrating the 68th Workers’ Education Day at the South Central Railway Hind Mazdoor Sabha’s (HMS) union office in Secunderabad, at 2 pm on Tuesday, September 16.

Workers’ Education Day is an annual observation, celebrated on September 16 in India to commemorate the establishment of the Central Board for Workers’ Education (CBWE) in 1958.

The CBWE was renamed after Dattopant Thengadi, the founder of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014.

In his message on the eve of Workers’ Education Day on Monday, M R Deshpande, regional directorate in-charge, DTNBWED, has extend his warm greetings to all the workers.

“You are the backbone of our nation’s growth and development. Whether you are employed in the industrial sector or working in unorganized and rural areas, your hard work and dedication are invaluable,” he stated.

He said that it was now the turn of the workers to give back to the society through dedicated service, by feeling a sense of ownership in their work, just like they would care for their own children, by taking pride in their responsibilities and finding joy in serving with dedication.

“Don’t compare your worth to wealth; instead, take pride in your achievements. Whether you’re driving a car worth Rs 20 crore or earning a humble income, dignity lies in your hard work and contributions,” he encouraged the workers from the unorganised sector and rural areas.

“To those of you in the unorganised and rural sectors, I say: a seed can’t grow on a table; it needs land to flourish. Similarly, you need continuous workers’ education to grow and overcome adversities. Education is key to growth, and continuous learning will help you manage financial struggles, debt, and secure your future. Your hard work is valuable, and so is your dignity,” he added.

He urged all workers to embrace continuous learning, take pride in their work, and contribute to the nation’s growth with dedication and passion, while striving for a better life with knowledge and self-respect.

On this occasion, Shaik Salauddin, founder president of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU), also welcomed the Workers’ Education Day celebration and awareness programs conducted by DTNBWED.

He emphasized that workers’ education is essential for both organized and unorganized sectors, particularly for gig and platform workers, to strengthen their rights, dignity, and their role in nation-building.
