Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi addressed key political and security issues in a press conference, commenting on his party’s recent electoral performance, local incidents in Hyderabad, and the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Telangana.

He also spoke on other national and international issues including unrest in Iran and Bangladesh.

Asaduddin Owaisi on AIMIM’s Maha success

Speaking on the success in the Maharashtra municipal polls, Owaisi thanked Allah for the victory of 125 AIMIM corporators. He extended his gratitude to the voters and party workers for their efforts.

He instructed the winning corporators to remain among the people and work diligently in their respective wards. He highlighted that Hindus and Dalits were also among those who won on the party’s ticket.

Making the party’s stance clear, Owaisi stated that there will be no alliance with the BJP or the NDA. He further clarified that while corporators represent the party, they cannot take policy decisions, adding that only the party leadership holds that authority.

The victory of AIMIM candidates in Maharashtra can be attributed to Asaduddin Owaisi’s door-to-door campaign.

For the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana, the MP mentioned that he gave the green signal to district presidents to accept applications for the party tickets.

Puranapul incident

On the security in Hyderabad, Owaisi addressed the recent Puranapul incident. He questioned why violence in the city often occurs during the night and stated that authorities must check this trend. He alleged that police intelligence is weak.

Emphasizing Hyderabad’s national importance, Asaduddin Owaisi said the city is a brand for the nation and a crucial economic hub that must be preserved.

On the Puranapul incident specifically, he said a lathi-charge happened and the innocent became victims.

It may be noted that in the incident, ten people, including an inspector and a few constables, were injured in the stone pelting, and several vehicles were damaged late on the night of Wednesday, January 14.

Trouble started after unidentified persons tore a flexi at the Puranapul temple. Following the incident, a crowd gathered and raised slogans, triggering tension.

They attacked a nearby shrine of another community and vandalised the graves. They also damaged a religious flag. The mob set a two-wheeler afire and damaged a few other vehicles, bringing traffic to a halt at the busy intersection on the banks of the Musi river.

Upcoming SIR in Hyderabad, other Telangana districts

On the upcoming SIR in Telangana, Asaduddin Owaisi announced that his party will be active during the exercise.

The exercise is expected to begin soon in the state, as recently the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, said that Telangana would soon become a role model for the entire country in the SIR.

On international affairs, Owaisi commented on the situation in Iran. He said that the Chabahar port is important for India as it provides the country an entrance to Afghanistan and other Central Asian nations.

Regarding Bangladesh, he stated that India shares both land and sea borders with the country, and its stability is important for India.
