Hate speech case: Trial against Akbaruddin Owaisi to begin today

Hyderabad: Nampally Criminal Court on Monday will begin the trial against Akbaruddin Owaisi, AIMIM floor leader and MLA representing Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency, in a hate speech case.

In the case, it has been alleged that the MLA had delivered hate speech in Nirmal Town in 2012. Earlier, Nirmal Town police had registered cases against both the MLA and the then Nirmal town party president Azeem bin Yahya under relevant sections of IPC.

The trial will be heard against Akbaruddin Owaisi and Azeem bin Yahya. From February 21 to March 7, the first additional metropolitan sessions judge-cum-special court constituted for MPs and MLAs will examine the witnesses, TOI reported.

It is also reported that both the accused are likely to attend the court as the physical hearing began in all courts in Telangana State.

Nirmal speech

The alleged hate speech made by Akbaruddin Owaisi in December 2012 in Nirmal district, Telangana had gone viral on social media.

He was arrested in the case in January 2013 after Nirmal police registered a suo moto case. The MLA had also spent 40 days in prison.
