Huge garbage pile up raises health concerns in Hyderabad’s Santoshnagar

Hyderabad Desk

Hyderabad: Unhygienic conditions galore at the Rakshapuram Road in Hyderabad‘s Santoshnagar area due to huge mounds of garbage piled up on the road.

The garbage lies on the road near the police station, leading to a foul smell. Several cattle are attracted due to its presence, compounding the problem.

“The stench is unbearable; we are unable to stay comfortable in the house. When we cannot tolerate it, we lock the house and go to our relatives’ place to stay,” complained Sailaja, a local resident.

Residents point out that a few days ago, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) laid a road in the nearby colony, preventing vehicular movement. “After the road was blocked, the garbage auto rickshaw is not coming into the colony. People are bringing the household trash and dumping it on the road,” said Satish Goud, another local resident of Rakshapuram.

The presence of the garbage mound on the road is causing health apprehensions among the people. “If the GHMC does not act immediately, we fear there will be an outbreak of a pandemic. Already mosquitoes and housefly problems have increased due to the presence of,” said Sameeruddin, a local trader.
