Hyderabad: GHMC fines Madhapur college’s kitchen Rs 2 lakh over food poisoning

Hyderabad: The GHMC has fined the central kitchen of Sree Chainatya college at Madhapur Rs 2 lakh following a complaint that students fell ill due to food poisoning in the Sri Chaitanya Akshara GIrls’ Junior College. Food Safety inspectors also found the presence of cockroaches in the storage area, the civic body said.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) additional commissioner of Health Pankaja said that the inspections were done on September 2, following the complaint.

Food safety officials stated that many defects were noticed during their inspection, such as proper hygiene, sanitation management, non-compliance of food quality standards, lack of labels on food items, and presence of cockroaches in the storage area.

After the inspections, Madhapur Assistant Medical Officer levied a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Chaitanya’s central kitchen. The GHMC additional commissioner said that a show cause notice has also been ,issued asking the management to take further action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Prior to this, GHMC Food Safety officers also issued a show cause notice to Taj Mahal Hotel at Abids following a complaint. Officers said that they found cockroaches during their inspections there as well.
