Hyderabad: The city’s premier Qadir Ali Baig Theatre festival announced its 19th edition which will be held from November 6 to 11. The announcement came after the event commemorating Hyderabad’s legendary playwright on the 40th anniversary of his passing.

During the event, the drama ‘Sunset Sunrise’ was premiered and was joined by Telangana’s governor Jishnu Dev Varma. The governor spoke about how Baig was one of the pioneers in the theatre scene in Hyderabad, with him conducting large-scale shows and plays at historical sites like the Golkonda fort, and Chowmahalla Palace, during the 1970s.

This edition of the theatre festival would mark the first festival without Qadir Ali Baig’s beloved wife Begum Razia Baig, with her sad passing, earlier this year.

Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation aims to continue being a platform that showcases thought-provoking theatre and international talent, taking the dramatist’s socially relevant thoughts alive in their spirits.

The 2023 edition of the festival was held at the Salar Jung Museum and Taramati Baradari. This year’s venues and tickets are yet to be announced.
