Liquor shops to remain closed for 2 days in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The state excise department on Saturday said that the liquor shops in and around the city shall remain close for two days, starting today. The decision was taken in view of the Ashada Bonalu in the old city.

In a statement, the department warned of serious consequences if any of the stores sell liquor illegally.

As a part of the 11-day Bonalu at Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali Mandiram at Hari Bowli in Shalibanda of the old city, offerings will be made at the temple on Sunday. It ends on Monday after Rangam, a future foretelling event.

Traffic police also issued restrictions and diversions at the old city owing to the celebration. Besides other traffic diversions, the traffic police said the main road between Madina Crossroads to Engine Bowli, via Gulzar House, Charminar, Charminar bus terminal, Himmatpura, Nagulchinta, Aliabad will be closed for traffic till the culmination of the processions.

RTC buses too will not be allowed towards Charminar, Falaknuma and Nayapool and will be stopped at Old CBS, Afzalgunj, Darulshifa Crossroads and Engine Bowli and take alternate routes open to them.
