Over a thousand packets of duplicate Taj Mahal tea seized in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Special Crime Team of Central Crime Police Station, working with the Goshamahal and Afzalgunj police, arrested three individuals on Monday, March 2, for selling duplicate tea powder, detergent and mosquito repellents.

A total of 1,340 boxes of duplicate Red Label tea powder, 100 boxes of duplicate Taj Mahal tea powder, 950 packets of Tide detergent powder and 100 packets of duplicate Ariel detergent powder were seized by the police.

Additionally, 300 packets of duplicate Wheel detergent powder, 550 packets of Surf Excel detergent powder, 3,600 units of Good Night mosquito repellent, 5,800 packets of Red Label packing covers, 3,700 packing covers for Gemini Tea and 75 kg of loose tea powder were also seized.

The accused have been identified as Jaya Ram, 30, Kachhawa Surendera, 34, and Hanuman Ram, 21, all natives of Rajasthan.

According to the police, the accused would purchase duplicate packing covers along with low-quality material from dealers in Gujarat at a high discount and then sell the same to local retail and wholesale shops of Goshamahal, Afzalgunj, Begumbazar and other areas at a significant discount, by falsely representing them as original brand items.

The Hyderabad police have asked the public to verify the authenticity of food items by checking the QR codes before purchasing.
