Hyderabad: Telangana government on Thursday cancelled the board exams to class 10 under State Secondary Board (SSC) and intermediate first year under the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) in view of the rising COVID-19 cases.
According to the special chief secretary Chitra Ramachandran, keeping in view of the CBSE notification the government has decided to cancel the SSC exams which were going to be held from May 17.
She said that the results of Class X, students to be prepared on the basis of objective criteria to be developed by the SSC Board, Telangana at later date.
Any candidate not satisfied with the marks allotted will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam and when the conditions are conducive.
Meanwhile, the board exams for second-year students stands deferred to a later date. “Review will be held in the first week of June and future dates will be announced with at least fifteen days’ notice for exams,” the higher education department said in a statement.
The 25 per cent weightage of intermediate marks will not be considered for EAMCET this year, it added.
A decision to this effect was taken after a high-level review meeting was held by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with the education ministry officials.
Earlier, the SSC exams were scheduled to be held from May 17 and intermediate exams were to begin on May 1.
Last year too, the Telangana government promoted students of class 1 to 11 to the next class without conducting the examination due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier on Wednesday, the central board of secondary education (CBSE) announced that class 10 exams stand cancelled, while class 12 exams have been postponed. It said that the results of Class 10 will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board.
