‘He said, meet in resort’: Influencer exposes Tollywood producer

Hyderabad: The issue of casting couch has once again come into focus in the Telugu film industry after a latest viral video by a social media influencer.

A Telugu influencer based in New York, known as Piku Nemali, shared her disturbing experience while trying to enter Tollywood. Her video quickly gained attention online due to the seriousness of her claims.

According to her, she contacted an assistant director through mutual connections and shared her portfolio, hoping to find acting opportunities. Initially, the conversation seemed professional, and she expressed her dedication towards building a career in films.

However, things took a troubling turn later. She alleged that the assistant director invited her to India, saying a well-known producer wanted to meet her at a resort. During the conversation, she realized that the invitation carried inappropriate intentions.

Understanding the situation, she immediately cut off contact and blocked the person. She also claimed that such incidents discourage many talented Telugu girls from pursuing careers in the film industry.

Industry Response

Following the viral video, actress and anchor Jhansi responded quickly. She reached out to the influencer and advised her to file an official complaint with the film industry’s Sexual Harassment Redressal Panel.

Jhansi, who is part of the women’s support committee, assured that the matter would be taken seriously and investigated properly. Her prompt action was widely appreciated on social media.

Similar Experiences Shared by Actresses

This is not the first time actresses have spoken about challenges in the industry. Actress Shweta Basu Prasad, who made a strong Tollywood debut with Kotha Bangaru Lokam, also opened up about her experience. She said this was the only time she faced bullying in her acting career.

Shweta shared that people on set often pointed out her height difference with her co-star. She said, “The hero was almost six feet tall, while I am only 5’2.” She added that she felt frustrated because height is something a person cannot control.

Similarly, Fatima Sana Shaikh also spoke about uncomfortable experiences in the industry. Recalling an incident, she said, “He asked me, ‘You will be ready to do everything, right?’ I told him that I will be working hard and will do what is required for the role.” She further revealed, “I played dumb because I wanted to see how low he can get.”

Growing Concern

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about safety and transparency in the industry. Many users online have pointed out that such experiences continue to create fear among aspiring artists, especially women.

While discussions around casting couch are not new, repeated incidents show that stronger action and accountability are still needed. It remains to be seen whether a formal complaint will be filed and if any strict action will follow.

For now, the issue has reignited an important conversation about creating a safer environment for talent in Tollywood.
