Ramayana: Fans slam VFX, question Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘divine’ look

Hyderabad Desk

Hyderabad: The much-awaited teaser of Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, was finally unveiled on April 2, 2026, during grand events across India. Despite its staggering Rs. 4000 crore budget, the initial response from fans and social media has been mixed.

Mixed Reactions to First Look

While some fans appreciated the scale and ambition, many others felt the teaser lacked emotional depth. Several viewers described Ranbir Kapoor’s look as “average” and said it did not capture the divine aura expected from the character of Lord Rama.

Comparisons were quickly drawn with iconic portrayals by actors like Arun Govil and Gurmeet Choudhary, who are remembered for their calm and spiritual screen presence.

Criticism Around VFX

A major portion of the criticism focused on the film’s visual effects. Many users felt that the VFX appeared artificial and overused. Some even compared the visuals to video games and AI-generated imagery, questioning whether the massive budget was used effectively.

A popular opinion online was that VFX should enhance storytelling, not replace real sets. Critics argued that the teaser relied too heavily on green screens instead of practical locations.

Comparisons With Adipurush

Another trending topic was the comparison with Adipurush, which had faced backlash for similar reasons. Many viewers said the teaser gave them flashbacks to that film, especially due to the stylized demons and artificial visuals.

This has raised concerns among fans who expected Ramayana to set a new benchmark in Indian cinema.

The teaser also briefly showcased Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The film’s music, composed by Hans Zimmerand A. R. Rahman, has added to the excitement.

Despite the criticism, some fans defended the project, saying it is too early to judge based on a teaser.

With Part 1 set for release during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in 2027, expectations remain extremely high. The makers still have time to refine the visuals and storytelling.
